Klabin holds a General Shutdown at the Correia Pinto Unit

Between the 18th and 27th of March, Klabin’s Correia Pinto Plant (SC) will be holding its Annual General Shutdown, a compulsory procedure which involves interrupting paper production and is intended to guarantee that all necessary maintenance for the mill to function properly is carried out with quality and safety. This is common practice in the pulp and paper sector and occurs annually in the company’s plants.

During these 10 days, around 66 contractors and 1,347 temporary workers will be involved in the General Shutdown. Inspection of boilers, digesters, power generation and distribution systems and production process controls are among the principal activities planned. This number of temporary workers demands logistics and infrastructure which include transportation, lodgings and meals among other items which drive and stimulate the economy of the town of Correia Pinto and the region. Added to these are other benefits, such as the taxes generated for the municipality and extra movement in hotels, bars restaurants and shops, as well as services to support the workers staying in the town.

During the days of the Shutdown, variations in odors and noise coming from the mill – especially on the 18th and 19th, at the beginning of the Shutdown, and on the 26th and 27th, at the startup of machine operations – may be noticed by the community. It is important to note that these alterations do not cause any harm to people’s health, nor to the environment.

Klabin is making an exclusive channel available to attend the community which will be operable 24 hours a day. In case of doubts concerning any of Klabin’s activities, the community may call the telephone number 0800 721 002 28.
