São Paulo, April 5, 2017 – The Chief People & Management Officer of Klabin, Sergio Piza, participated yesterday in the “Presentations by Leading Companies” session at the Global Child Forum on South America, which was held at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) in São Paulo. Organized in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Childhood Brasil, the event was held for the first time in South America, in which more than 350 leaders and influencers from companies, governments, civil society and universities came together to discuss on the topic “Investing in Every Child”. The purpose of the meeting is to encourage business leaders to respect and support children’s rights, invest in their wellness, health and safety, and to highlight the important connection with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in driving economic and social progress in South America.

The forum saw the presence of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, the President of Brazil, Michel Temer, the first lady of Brazil, Marcela Temer, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children, Marta Santos Pais, the State Secretary to the Swedish Minister of Enterprise and Innovation, Niklas Johansson, and other authorities and leaders.

The Chief People & Management Officer of Klabin highlighted the important role played by Klabin in society, underscoring that its long history is directly related to the care it shows towards its forests, employees and the communities surrounding its operations. “We have people who are prepared, engaged and motivated, who share Klabin’s natural values such as ethics, the pursuit of excellence and innovation, and the commitment to sustainability,” said Piza.

At the event, the benchmark report “The Corporate Sector and Children’s Rights in South America” was released, in which Klabin was highlighted for its “Puma Project for Childhood” project.

About the Puma Childhood Project

The Puma Childhood Project was part of the plan drawn up by Klabin when the Puma Unit, its new pulp plant in Ortigueira, Paraná, was under construction. The program was developed jointly with the Social and Environmental Action Plan, which identified opportunities and points of attention regarding the company’s social investments. The project, which features various phases, disseminates information and raises awareness on protecting youth among a high number of children protection agents, and also administers training on providing service in situations of sexual assault and abuse involving children and adolescents.
