Klabin executive participates in Stockholm World Water Week

São Paulo, August 28, 2020 – Júlio Nogueira, Sustainability and Environment manager at Klabin, participated yesterday (August 27) at the Stockholm World Water Week, the central forum organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) in Sweden to discuss global water issues. Held in virtual format, the event this year primarily discussed the strategies adopted by the private sector to responsibly implement water security policies and adopt sustainable practices in both its operations and throughout the supply chain.

Júlio moderated the virtual panel discussion on “Multi-stakeholder cooperation to leverage the SDG6 in the Business Agenda” organized by the Global Compact Brazil Network to discuss potential solutions for the main challenges faced by Brazil in terms of water security and coastal maritime security, as well as the economic development and social well-being of people living in risk areas.

The panel discussion cited examples of cooperation among stakeholders to leverage (UN Sustainable Development Goal) SDG 6 on the business agenda, which aims to ensure the sustainable management and availability of water and sanitation for all by 2030. Klabin became a signatory to the SDGs in 2016 and implements projects that significantly contribute to attaining the Objectives, such as achieving the “leadership” level in the sustainable management of water resources, with the highest score granted by CDP Worldwide.

“The world is witnessing an important debate on the use of natural resources. Efforts by the private sector, proposing solutions and discussing ideas in an event such as this, are fundamental to bring about a real transformation of global challenges with regard to sustainable water management practices. At Klabin, we already practice the bioeconomy and see that discussions like this are essential”, he said.
