Klabin presents the 2015 Sustainability Report

São Paulo, May 31, 2016 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter and the leading producer of paper and board for packaging, corrugated board packaging and industrial bags, presents its Sustainability Report, which brings information about the company’s performance in 2015. The report, in its 17th edition, is structured into four chapters: Excellence, Sustainability, Innovation, and Vision for the Future. These topics correspond to the attributes that have been guiding the organization over its 117-year history and cover the nine most important themes for sustainability management at Klabin:

Competitiveness and economic results;

Environment;
Wood supply;
Promotion of local development and relationship with communities;
Business expansion;
Health and safety of direct and indirect employees;
Research, development and innovation;
Certifications;
Customer satisfaction and product quality.

The report highlights the fact that 2015 was a crucial year for Klabin when it took an important step in its growth cycle: the new plant – the Puma Unit in Ortigueira, Paraná – with production capacity of 1.5 million tons of pulp. The plant went operational in March 2016, on schedule and on budget.

The report also highlights the 15% growth in exports, which accounted for 34% of total sales in the year, up 3 percentage points from 2014. Operating cash generation (adjusted EBITDA) reached R$1,975 million in 2015, the best result in the company’s history, up 15% from 2014.

Among the honors that attest to the company’s more intensive efforts in 2015 towards sustainability are its election by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Latin America as the company with the best practice in Natural Capital Management; being featured in the “Water Management” category of the Exame Sustainability Guide; being included once again, driven by a solid and evident performance, in the Environmental Paper Company Index (EPCI) Report, a biennial initiative of the WWF; and being included in the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&FBovespa), for the third time in a row.

The Klabin report adopts the “G4 Core” guidelines of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the organization internationally recognized as the benchmark of excellence in creating methodologies and indicators to describe the social, environmental and economic management of companies. The complete report (Portuguese, English and Spanish) is available online, a condensed version (Portuguese and English) is available for download and an audio description version for the visually impaired will be available in July this year. The contents of the report were submitted for independent assurance by BSD Consulting.
