Caiubi Program brings recycling workshop to Otacilio Costa

Klabin, Brazil’s biggest manufacturer and exporter of packaging paper, in conjunction with UDESC (University of the State of Santa Catarina), the Environmental Police, APREMAVI (Association for the Preservation of the Environment and Life), Blumeterra and with support from the Townhalls of Palmeira and Bocaina do Sul, is holding the 22nd Edition of the Caiubi Program. This edition will be held in Otacilio Costa, between the 24th and 25th of July and will benefit about 60 teachers from Bocaina do Sul.

New to this edition are the pedagogical workshop, given by Sueli Paim a teacher from the town of Palmeira who will use recycled materials, and also a visit to the sanitary landfill of the company Blumeterra.

In addition to these activities, participants will attend lectures, have practical activities of environmental awareness and will be given guidance on fauna, flora, sustainability and forest management. The teachers will have the opportunity to get to know the Legal Woods Program, run by Klabin in partnership with APREMAVI, which advises small and medium-sized farmers on the most efficient ways to make use of their land. The Environmental Police will also contribute with a lecture and fun activities involving environmental education.

This edition will also include a talk “The future depends on us”, given by forestry engineer Vilmar Picinatto, from UDESC (University of the State of Santa Catarina). He will talk about how practicing environmental citizenship contributes to the healthy development of the planet.

The goal of the program is for these teachers to multiply this knowledge, after training, with students in the public school system and to begin developing related projects, which contribute to the content of the school curriculum.

Caiubi Program

Klabin started the Caiubi Program in Parana in 2001, in order to disseminate ecological awareness concepts among the teachers from communities in which it operates. In partnership with the Municipal Secretary of Education of Telemaco Borba and the Regional Nucleus of Education, the project has already brought benefits to nearly 160 thousand students and 3 thousand teachers in 500 schools in the region.

The project has been running in Santa Catarina on the other hand since 2007 and is promoted by the Secretaries of Education. Since its creation, the program has benefited over 885 teachers from 300 schools and 100 thousand students.
