Paraná, October 10 – Imbaú, Ortigueira and Telêmaco Borba registered strong improvement in the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB), with increases of 16%, 13% and 41%, respectively, in relation to the last measurement conducted in 2015. The municipalities have been receiving the support of Klabin’s Sowing Education project for over one year.

Published in September, the report is produced by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP). Based on the results, Imbaú, Ortigueira and Telêmaco Borba received scores of 4.3, 4.2 and 4.8, respectively.

“The improvement is the fruit of a complex series of factors and initiatives. Klabin’s Sowing Education project helped the schools to focus more intensely on their initiatives related to the pillars of the IDEB, while expanding discussions with the school community,” said Maurício Rodrigues Gil, Klabin’s coordinator in the Sowing Education project.

The IDEB results are calculated based on the performance of students who participated in the Basic Education Evaluation System (SAEB 2017) and on pass rates, which were based on information compiled in last year’s School Census.

The project established goals based on the results of previous editions of the IDEB. Each school structured discussions with different agents in the school community (teachers, employees, students and parents), analyzed causes and proposed solutions organized in an Action Plan. “The goals were defined based on the potential gain envision for each municipality and expanded to each school,” added Gil.

The Project

Klabin’s Sowing Education project was developed jointly with the company’s Sustainability Policy, considering its economic and social influence in the regions of Telêmaco Borba, Imbaú and Ortigueira. The project’s purpose is to help strengthen the administrations of state public schools and consequently to improve the quality indicators of basic education in these municipalities.
