Klabin conducts maintenance shutdown at Otacílio Costa Unit

Maintenance will be done from January 15 through 25 and should involve over 1,500 workers, boosting the city’s economy

Santa Catarina, January 8, 2024 - Klabin will conduct maintenance shutdown at the Otacílio Costa Unit from January 15 through 25, to carry out maintenance work on all equipment in order to ensure the proper functioning of machines and, especially, to ensure the safety and integrity of employees. Moreover, improvements will be made to increase the quality of the production process.

In addition to the over 850 direct and indirect employees working at the Unit, more than 100 vendor companies will be involved in the maintenance shutdown, bringing the total workforce to more than 1,500, which should boost income generation in the region. The project demands extensive planning to ensure that all stages of maintenance, including adjustments, repairs and inspections, are executed quickly and efficiently.

The maintenance shutdown is a procedure mandated by Regulatory Standard NR-13 for companies working with pressure vessels, such as boilers and digesters. With the theme “Attitude of today that builds tomorrow,” the 2024 maintenance shutdown underlines the importance of safety in maintenance actions. All safety and environmental standards are adopted both during maintenance services and upon resumption of operations.

During the maintenance period, residents around the Unit may notice changes in odor and noise, which are common during maintenance activities. However, note that these changes do not pose any threat to public health or the environment. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact us at 0800 721 0228.
