Santa Catarina, March 9, 2026 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, a leader in corrugated board packaging and a reference in short, long, and fluff market pulp, held meetings with the city governments of the municipalities participating in the Klabin Transforms by Sowing Education program in Santa Catarina to present this year’s work plan. The activities will be carried out in the municipalities of Correia Pinto, Lages, Otacílio Costa, and Ponte Alta.

According to Maria Harumi Yoshioka, Manager of Social Responsibility and Community Relations at Klabin, the program is primarily focused on supporting municipal education networks in the creation and implementation of a strategic action plan. The goal is to foster evidence-based management in order to broaden access, strengthen students' educational pathways, and improve learning outcomes.

This initial alignment is crucial for achieving long-term goals. “This moment, which we call awareness-raising, will help us plan activities collaboratively, integrate the teams, and listen to local needs,” says the manager.

According to her, the main actions of the program throughout the year include conducting a diagnosis of the local reality on educational issues, supporting the planning of actions and goals, ongoing training for school administrators, monitoring performance indicators, and recognizing progress at the end of this cycle, which is expected to conclude at the end of 2026.

About the Klabin Transforms by Sowing Education program

The Klabin Transforms by Sowing Education program has been carried out since 2017 in municipalities in Paraná and, since 2021, in Santa Catarina. Its purpose is to strengthen public education in the areas where Klabin operates by providing technical support to the Departments of Education, promoting efficient, evidence-based management to broaden access, strengthen students' educational pathways, and improve learning outcomes.

Over the years, there has been an improvement in the quality of public education in the participating municipalities. In Santa Catarina, the cities of Otacílio Costa and Palmeira exceeded the targets of the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in 2023. Otacílio Costa raised the index from 6.3 to 6.6, surpassing the target of 6.3. Palmeira, on the other hand, rose from 6.3 to 7.2, exceeding the target of 6.6. Both also surpassed the state (6.2) and national (6.0) averages in the early years of elementary school.
