Klabin identifica cerca de 3 mil espécies de fauna e flora em suas áreas florestais

The company is making progress in conservation actions, with an emphasis on protected areas, reintroduction of endangered species, and use of technology in environmental monitoring

São Paulo, July 23, 2025 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, has made progress in its environmental conservation initiatives, especially those in favor of Brazilian biodiversity. The Company identified 2,917 species of fauna and flora in its forest areas, with 70 of them being endangered species. The data is based on the company's 2024 Sustainability Report, which details advances in both environmental conservation and ecosystem services.

According to the document, by 2024, 1,971 plant species and 946 animal species were recorded, mainly in the High Conservation Value Areas of Klabin (AAVCs) located in Paraná, São Paulo, and Santa Catarina. The numbers reinforce the importance of Klabin's biodiversity conservation strategy, which combines responsible forest production with the maintenance of natural landscapes. AAVCs are regions recognized for their environmental and social value, which harbor biodiversity and ecosystems that are endangered or at risk of extinction.

Klabin's forest area totals more than 900,000 hectares in size, of which 41% are preserved native forests. A global reference in sustainable management, the Company adopts the mosaic planting technique, which mixes native areas with planted forests of different ages. This practice favors the creation of ecological corridors, enabling connectivity between habitats and the free movement of various species of wild animals, in addition to protecting water resources and mitigating the effects of climate change.

On another front, Klabin continues to make progress in reintroducing endangered species to nature, such as the guans (Aburria jacutinga) and the vinaceous-breasted parrots (Amazona vinacea). The action is conducted by the Klabin Ecological Park (PEK), located in Telêmaco Borba (PR), and is part of a population reinforcement program for these species. After release, the birds are monitored using advanced technology, which involves leg-bands, radio transmitters, and collars with antennas for satellite tracking, equipment that allows researchers to measure how well the animals adapt to the habitat without interfering with their natural behavior.

Another important advance was the publication of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Conservation Plan, in line with the framework of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). The Company also ties the variable compensation of its managers to social and environmental goals, including biodiversity protection, which strengthens governance on the subject.

The results of the Sustainability Report demonstrate Klabin's public commitment to biodiversity conservation, formalized in the Klabin Sustainable Development Goals (KODS), a set of goals undertaken by the company in 2020 and guided by the UN 2030 Agenda.
