Klabin conducts general maintenance shutdown at Otacílio Costa Unit (SC)
Maintenance will be carried out between May 5 and 15 and is expected to involve approximately 2,000 workers
Santa Catarina, April 30, 2025 - Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, Klabin, will carry out the general maintenance shutdown at the Otacílio Costa Unit in Santa Catarina from May 5 to 15. Preventive action ensures reliability and safety for the operation, its employees and the local community.
The general maintenance shutdown is an event mandated by Regulatory Standard NR13 for companies working with pressure vessels, such as boilers and digesters. Performing a general maintenance shutdown is a legal obligation that ensures the integrity and safety of the operations and people who work at Klabin, as well as of the communities where the company operates.
The planned interventions are expected to draw over 2,000 workers to the region, who will offer specialized services for the mill's maintenance. In addition to benefiting the company, the arrival of these professionals boosts economic activity in the Serra Catarinense region by prioritizing the hiring of local labor.
"The general maintenance shutdown is a strategic opportunity for us to carry out preventive maintenance and crucial repairs, mitigating unexpected failures and high costs associated with corrective maintenance. Furthermore, it is the perfect time to implement technological upgrades, improving our efficiency and quality. By investing in the modernization of our equipment and processes, we have not only optimized resources but also enhanced our market competitiveness and, most importantly, ensured safe operations for our employees and the entire community," explains Alexsandro Evaristo, Industrial Manager at the Otacílio Costa Unit.
One of Klabin's main concerns in the period, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, is to keep the community involved and informed about the general maintenance shutdown, so that everyone feels safe about the changes in the city and ready for the potential opportunities linked to the reception of these workers.
