Klabin's Port Terminal celebrates two years of operation with over 1 million metric tons of pulp shipped
PAR-01 allows the entire unloading operation of products from the Monte Alegre and Ortigueira units to be carried out within the Port of Paranaguá
Paraná, December 23, 2024 – Klabin's PAR-01 Port Terminal, located in the Port of Paranaguá (PR), completes two years of operation this month, with significant numbers that reinforce the Company's logistics strategy. Since its inauguration in December 2022, the terminal has shipped over 1.1 million metric tons of pulp, establishing itself as a pillar for the company's logistics operations.
PAR-01 received an investment of R$120 million and occupies an area of 27,530 m². The direct rail connection with the Ortigueira Unit enabled the Company to make advances in efficiency and sustainability. The transition to rail transport has resulted in an 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the installation of solar panels at the terminal generates approximately 270 megawatt-hour per year, avoiding the emission of 3.6 metric tons of CO2.
"The strategic location of the terminal provides more sustainable and efficient operations, integrating different transportation modes, through intelligent logistics. Trucks are now used on shorter routes and circulate less frequently, reducing risks to the community," highlights Roberto Bisogni, director of Operational Planning, Logistics, Supplies, and IT at Klabin.
The terminal is part of a broad strategy by Klabin in Paraná, which has just completed 90 years of presence in the state. PAR-01 enables the entire unloading operation of hardwood pulp, softwood pulp and fluff and paper reels coming from the Ortigueira and Monte Alegre Units to be done inside the Port of Paranaguá. The operation ships the production in bales and reels.
PAR-01 also makes Klabin more productive and competitive in break bulk cargo, a type of bulk cargo transportation that dispenses with containers, with large volumes, directly inside ships, enabling us to serve customers with large scale and operational excellence.
The terminal area was leased by Klabin at an auction held in August 2019. The concession agreement was signed in early 2020, ending two decades without new leases at the Port of Paranaguá. The terminal is part of a broader strategy of the Company, which also includes the Ortigueira Container Terminal, operated in partnership with Brado Logística and the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP). With an investment of R$300 million, this project doubled the container flow capacity of the Company in the state.
