Klabin’s Figueira Project in Piracicaba, SP, goes operational
New unit has annual production capacity of 240 thousand tons of corrugated board packaging and should deliver 70 thousand tons this year
São Paulo, April 22, 2024 - Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable paper packaging solutions, has started operating its new corrugated board packaging unit in Piracicaba, São Paulo. The Figueira Unit, with annual production capacity of 240 thousand tons, is the result of investments totaling R$1.6 billion and will enable the Company to reach the mark of 1.2 million tons of corrugated board conversions a year.
The Figueira Unit will have two corrugators and nine top-quality printers, of which one corrugator and four printers will start operating at the time of startup. Others will go operational during the course of 2024 in line with the construction schedule and completion of the plant infrastructure. The Unit will produce 70 thousand tons this year and should reach the full projected volume in 2026. The capacity increase in packaging conversion strengthens the long-term vision of Klabin, which operates with an integrated, diversified and flexible business model.
“The Figueira Project is the culmination of an important moment for Klabin in expanding and consolidating its niche in the packaging sector. We have the country’s most modern corrugated board mill in operation, bringing maximum operational efficiency to the Company and strengthening our presence in the segments already served, as we accompany the growth of our clients and bring additional capacity and technology to new clients and markets,” said Douglas Dalmasi, director of Packaging Business at Klabin.
In line with the Company's recent projects, Figueira brings together cutting-edge technology initiatives: a large part of the operation is automated and employs state-of-the-art equipment, which increases safety, quality, performance and sustainability while reducing costs. Also, the new unit was built on land spanning 1.17 million m², which gives room for future capacity expansion projects for recycled paper and corrugated board packaging.
