Ortigueira Technical School receives donation of forestry operation simulator for professional training
This and other donations of state-of-the-art equipment enhance the training of students and facilitate their entry into the job market.
Paraná, November 28, 2024 – The State Center for Professional Forestry and Agricultural Education of Ortigueira, oriented to the training of professionals in the sector, received the donation of one of the most cutting-edge forestry operation simulators. This enhances its infrastructure and strengthens its commitment to excellence in training students from the region. The Tigercat equipment, donated in partnership with Tracbel, will enhance the training of students, who will have access to state-of-the-art technology to practice planted tree harvesting within a school setting.
The new simulator, which reproduces real machine movements and provides an immersive experience of the forestry operation, marks a significant advancement in the school's teaching methodology, which has a longstanding history of community contributions. With four years of activities, the Technical School of Ortigueira has received support from several companies through the donation of the most advanced equipment, as well as basic materials for its practical classes. Among the partners, notable companies include Klabin, which has provided state-of-the-art simulators; BrasPine, which has made a substantial donation for the purchase of tools and equipment; and Plantar, which has supplied engines and equipment for pesticide application practices. In addition, the school also received donations of John Deere and Komatsu simulators, as well as tools for the Paraná Equipamentos workshops.
Ortigueira Technical School - The Ortigueira Technical School, as it is popularly known, was inaugurated on January 31, 2020 as Brazil's first vocational school for forestry operations. The school has the potential to elevate the municipality's status in national education and strengthen the region's focus on forestry and agriculture. At a total investment of R$35 million, the Center was established in a partnership between the Paraná State Government, the Municipality of Ortigueira and Klabin.
The institution has trained 266 professionals, and more than half of the students (57%) were hired immediately upon completing their studies, underscoring the importance of this public school in facilitating the entry of young people into the job market. In 2023, the school achieved the best score in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) for the final years of high school, among 50 institutions in the regional center of Telêmaco Borba, with a score of 5.3.
For 2025, the school will have six new classes, each with 35 students, totaling 210 new openings. Students will participate in classes in technical courses integrated with high school in the areas of Environment, Heavy Machinery Maintenance and Agribusiness. For those who have already completed high school, courses will be available in Heavy Machinery Maintenance, Forest Machine Operations and Occupational Safety. The recent opening of registrations demonstrated the community's strong interest in the training program offered, attracting 700 applicants for the available spots.
The Ortigueira Technical School is a state public institution always open to visits. It is particularly notable for its Knowledge Fair, an annual event held in September, where students showcase the projects and knowledge they have acquired throughout the school year.
