Held in Itajaí (SC), the 35th edition of the largest seafood festival in Brazil will feature paper cups, reaffirming the city's commitment to the environment and to the UN protocol

 

Santa Catarina, October 15, 2024 – From October 3 to 20, the 35th Marejada is being held in Itajaí (SC), which this year is sponsored by Klabin and features the donation of various materials of renewable and sustainable origin. The largest seafood event in the country, Marejada offers the public music, gastronomy, and other traditional activities. In addition to winning the National Sustainability Award from the Ministry of the Environment in the previous edition for its sustainable initiatives, the festival, regarded as the most popular in Itajaí (SC), also aims to mitigate potential environmental impacts that could result from its occurrence, focusing on areas such as reducing waste generation.

Klabin is involved in every aspect of the event's culinary offerings by donating 80,000 trays of various sizes, over 93,000 containers, 80,000 sheets of grease-resistant paper (which feature a protective barrier against greasy leaks), along with 800 cardboard trash bins for the entire event and 1,200 cups, all made from Klabin paper.

 

"The Company's participation extends beyond the donation of products. Klabin also committed to organizing the Kids' Sustainability Forum, which aims to engage with children and foster a change in attitudes and behaviors by addressing topics such as waste disposal, recycling, and the issue of ocean pollution. The event is attended by over 1,500 children from public and municipal schools,” says Pedro Paulo da Luz, industrial manager of Klabin's Itajaí Unit.
