Initiative that trains elementary school students on environment-related issues has been supported by the company since 2005

Santa Catarina, December 8, 2023 – On November 30, Klabin participated in the graduation ceremony of the 17th and 18th batches of the Santa Catarina Environmental Protectors Program (PROA), an initiative of the state’s Environmental Military Police. The event marks the end of a series of actions to train elementary school students in Lages and the region on themes related to caring for the environment, turning them into multipliers of knowledge in their communities.
 
The mission of the Environmental Protectors Program is to raise among children the feeling of integration with nature, resulting in a more sustainable relationship with the environment. Implemented in partnership with the Santa Catarina State Education Department, the action aims to stimulate awareness on the importance of preservation and care, with support from Klabin.
 
“Klabin has been a partner of the Environmental Protectors Program since 2005 and, through the action, seeks to increasingly foster knowledge of the environment and biodiversity conservation by showcasing the company’s efforts in its conservation areas across the region”, said Júlio Nogueira, manager of Sustainability and Environment at Klabin.
 
PROA provides theoretical and practical training on nature conservation, environmental legislation, local flora and fauna, civility, morality and ethics. Over the years, the action has benefitted more than 500 teens in various municipalities in the state where Klabin operates.
 
This is not the only initiative run by the Company in partnership with the Santa Catarina Military Police. Klabin has also been supporting the Drug Abuse and Violence Resistance Educational Program (Proerd) since 2018 and, in these six years of partnership, it has provided nearly R$250,000 in sponsorships. The funds were used to acquire materials and equipment for conducting classes and activities of Proerd as part of the Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention Project implemented by the Social Service Center of the Santa Catarina Military Police, and to organize the annual graduation ceremonies of the Project. 
 
“Klabin believes in creating shared value in order to help build a better future.  We are very proud of our support to the programs implemented by the Santa Catarina Military Police and our other projects in the region, such as Legal Forests and Caiubi Program, which are welcomed and recognized by the community," said Nogueira.
