Maintenance shutdown at Klabin’s Monte Alegre Unit

Maintenance is required by law to ensure proper functioning and reliability of equipment at the Unit

Paraná, June 21, 2023 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, will conduct a maintenance shutdown at its Monte Alegre Unit in Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, from June 28 to July 8. Regulatory Standards require maintenance and adjustments to be made to ensure the perfect functioning of equipment, as well as the safety and integrity of employees and the community as a whole.

In addition to maintenance, the shutdown enables the Unit to make improvements, such as technological upgrades, always with the purpose of improving productivity and operational safety by adopting market best practices.

To ensure that all the phases are performed quickly and efficiently, the shutdown involves prior planning and support from additional teams, with a significant portion of the workforce coming from surrounding cities, which represents income generation for the Campos Gerais region. Moreover, attracting workers will stimulate the regional economy and perceived by local residents, with greater movement of people in hotels and accommodation, transportation, restaurants and commerce.

Klabin is aware of the wellbeing of the community during the period and hence decided to maintain the preventive measures against COVID-19, such as mandatory proof of vaccination and cleaning of environments. Apart from caring for the health of employees, the Company monitors the conditions of transport used by contactors during the period and accommodation to be used by workers in order to ensure their safety.

During the maintenance period, residents around the Unit may notice changes in odor and noise. However, please note that these changes do not pose any risk to public health or to the environment.

Transparent dialogue with suppliers and the community
Recently, all the suppliers participated in meeting to discuss details of the shutdown, such as safety, food, health and transportation. To minimize the impact on road traffic, the arrival time of temporary workers will be different from the shift times followed by the mill, and workers are recommended to give priority to bus transportation. During the period, the Company will also have support from the Municipal Government to ensure smooth traffic.
