Referral hospital in Itajaí receives donations from Klabin
Company extended its commitment to communities and conducts joint actions in partnership with government and civil society
Itajaí, May 29, 2020 — To strengthen the initiatives to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Klabin, Brazil’s largest packaging paper producer and exporter, donated 60,000 PPE items to the Marieta Konder Bornhausen Maternity Hospital in downtown Itajaí, which is the referral hospital for 11 cities in the Itajaí region, with 92% of its patients coming from Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS).
In addition to items for hospital protection kits, which include surgical masks, gloves, aprons, surgical caps and safety glasses, the company also delivered 200 liters of hand sanitizer to the hospital. Apart from the health area, Klabin’s actions are also targeted at social welfare and included a donation of 2,500 pieces of corrugated board packaging to organize and transport basic food baskets distributed by the municipal government of Itajaí, and 40 pieces of packaging to the city’s Rotary Club.
In Itajaí, Klabin has a manufacturing unit that produces corrugated board packaging and, together with other operations it has across Brazil, has already allocated R$10 million to initiatives aimed at fighting the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Besides donating hygiene, health and PPE kits, the company donated corrugated board packaging, paper bags and basic food baskets, and funded the acquisition of hospital equipment.
