Klabin supports “Caçambas” urban intervention in São Paulo
Sculptures by artist Eduardo Srur raise awareness on the amount of waste produced by the city
São Paulo, August 29, 2019 – To raise public awareness on the topic of waste management, Klabin, Brazil’s leading producer and exporter of packaging paper, is supporting an urban intervention in the city of São Paulo called “Caçambas.”
Starting on August 31, the Pinheiros and Butantã districts of São Paulo will receive 15 sculptures created by visual artist Eduardo Srur that are reminiscent of a dumpster, a waste receptacle whose use in public spaces in the country is growing.
The sculptures mimic the shape and size of construction dumpsters, but are empty inside and formed only by the metal lines of their edges, provoking reflection on the excessive waste produced by society. Today, 20,000 tons of waste are generated each day by the city, a figure that does not include the thousands of illegal waste disposal sites.
Klabin has a robust Sustainability Policy in which the topic of solid waste is comprehensively addressed. In addition to adopting sustainable practices involving its production process, the company has a long history of conducting campaigns to raise awareness in local communities, seeking to alert the public to the seriousness of the topic.
The opening event of the “Caçambas” exhibition will be held at the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MuBE) on Saturday (31). The event, which is open to the general public, is free of charge.
