Otacílio Costa, July 2, 2020 – On June 20, Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper, participated in an action to collect waste along the Desquite River, which is situated near the Company’s site in Otacílio Costa, Santa Catarina. The initiative was organized by the Municipal Environmental Department as part of the activities organized in the city in connection with Environment Month, which is commemorated in June.
All volunteers engaged in the action followed the safety and hygiene recommendations associated with the pandemic, such as physical distancing and use of masks, and also used individual protective equipment appropriate for the activity.
The action’s results were very positive for the local community. The total waste removed from the river banks and bed filled eight dumpsters, or nearly three tons of materials. The Desquite River is highly important to the city, since it serves as the source of water for the region and is a tributary to the Canoas River.
