Klabin is the first paper sack packaging manufacturer in Latin America to receive this international recognition
São Paulo, July 22, 2015 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter, received a recommendation from the American Institute of Baking (AIB) for industrial sacks produced by the company and used by the food market. The recommendation from the U.S. entity, which has become a center for food technology transfer and conducts audits and inspections of manufacturing units in more than 120 countries, was granted after on site verification of the Lages I (Santa Catarina) Unit, making Klabin the first Brazilian company in the pulp and paper sector it receive AIB approval for its processes.
Technicians from the entity inspected the Klabin factory to evaluate five items: operational methods and personnel practices; maintenance for food safety; cleaning practices; integrated pest management; programs to adapt to requirements and food safety. These consolidated standards are recognized by food companies as protection measures and are demanded by clients in the food segment, particularly in the foreign market.
This recognition attests to processes adopted by Klabin in its Food Packaging Program, which guarantees the integrity of sacks, sanitary conditions and final consumer health. This program covers a set of actions and criteria related to industrial sanitary conditions or establishments that produce packaging for food products. These rules define ideal manufacturing processes based on changes to cleaning methods, personnel behavior, equipment and buildings to eliminate generic sources of possible contamination of a product.
This is yet another recognition that reaffirms Klabin’s pioneering nature and highlights the company’s engagement in best market practices and the quality of its products. “Receiving this recommendation reflects Klabin’s commitment to its clients. Klabin is continually investing in people, processes and technological solutions and has maintained its outstanding market position,” said Douglas Dalmasi, director of the industrial sacks area at Klabin.
