Santa Catarina, December 9, 2016 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter, and the leading manufacturer of paper and board for packaging, corrugated board packaging and industrial bags, held the graduation ceremony of the 12th batch of Environmental Protectors in partnership with the Environmental Police. This was the fifth edition held in the city of Lages, Santa Catarina, which trained 28 teenagers.
In this edition, which was held at the Santa Catarina State University Auditorium, students demonstrated a remarkable spirit of collectivity and received a badge in recognition. They also handed over a plaque to their coach Private Ilton Agostini, to honor his teachings throughout the course, which spanned 180 hours. The teachers and monitors who contributed to the group’s training also received certificates, and Klabin was honored with an award in the Sponsor category for sponsoring the project.
“The results of this initiative are seeds that will be reaped over the years. The youth who participate and have participated before definitely conclude the program with a different way of looking and acting, thinking in a more sustainable manner. From this moment on, they become agents responsible for disseminating environmental concepts and actions in the communities where they operate,” said Edson Maestri, manager of Klabin’s Otacílio Costa Unit.
The Environmental Protectors program was created to raise environmental awareness by training multipliers at the communities. Launched in 2005 in the city of Otacílio Costa, Santa Catarina, it has also been organized in the cities of Correia Pinto, Lages, Palmeira and Ponte Alta, having trained a total of 300 people so far.
