Klabin is the company most engaged in innovation in the industry

The company figured in the ranking of 100 Open Startups, a platform that connects startups to large companies

São Paulo, September 9, 2020 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest packaging paper producer and exporter, was recognized by the publication TOP 100 Open Corps as the company in the pulp and paper industry that is most engaged in the national innovation ecosystem. The 100 Open Startups ranking features companies that engaged with the most startups during the last 12 months, a period during which more than 1,600 corporations forged partnerships with startups, a number exponentially higher than that registered in recent years.

The concept of open innovation at Klabin gained traction in 2016, with the creation of the Inova Klabin program and the inauguration of Klabin’s Technology Center, in Paraná state. The initiatives on this front have facilitated the sharing of knowledge with universities, startups and stakeholders that connect with Klabin’s purposes and foster transformations on all fronts of the company’s operations. Since then, a number of projects have been implemented, including Pitch Days, which are open innovation programs for solving a wide array of challenges faced by the company. To date, eight Pitch Days have been held, including Sustainability Pitch Day, which works to attract partners for the proper disposal of the waste generated in the pulp production process and is still accepting applications until September 19.

“Klabin is currently developing projects with over 30 startups. The open innovation programs already held have proven excellent tools for identifying partners that help us to solve challenges inherent to the company’s development. We’re extremely satisfied with this recognition, which demonstrates the maturation of the company’s innovation strategy,” said Renata Freesz, Klabin’s Innovation Manager.

This was the first year that Klabin figured in the 100 Open Startups ranking. According to the ranking, which has been conducted since 2016, today the market has 1,635 companies and 2,018 startups that have developed open innovation in the country and closed 12,436 deals in the last year.
