Klabin is elected the company with the best practice of Natural Capital Management by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

Announcement was part of the debut of the Brazil 2015 Report: Climate, Water and Forest, in a ceremony at Insper, in São Paulo.

São Paulo, November 4, 2015 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter, was recognized on the morning of Wednesday, November 4, as the company with the best practices in Natural Capital Management in the 2015 edition of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Latin America.The announcement was part of the debut of the Brazil 2015 Report: Climate, Water and Forest, in a ceremony at Insper, in São Paulo.

The unprecedented initiative combined the experiences related to Water Resource Management, Use of Internal Carbon Price and Natural Capital Management of the 20 companies with the highest scores based on the CDP’s evaluation methodology.Of the 20 companies, Klabin stood out for its results in Natural Capital Management:100% certification of planted forests and the goal to certify all suppliers in three years; a 3% increase in water reuse;86.5% renewable energy sources; 55.6% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions over the last 10 years; and reduction of 94,000 tons per year in fuel oil consumption, preventing the emission of 290,000 tons of CO2 per year.

“For Klabin, managing natural capital is managing our social and environmental heritage and guaranteeing the continuation and prosperity of the territories and populations that make up this heritage.When Klabin achieves such significant results in natural capital management, it guarantees, among other gains, the conservation of biodiversity in one of the biomes most affected by human development, the Atlantic Forest, and proves that we can achieve a balance between human intervention and natural systems,” said Carime Kanbour, manager of Sustainability Management and Communication at Klabin.

The selection was made by a judging panel formed by members of the CDP’s Technical Advisory Board.This group was formed by representatives of investors, experts, trade associations, business organizations and academia.
