São Paulo, November 27, 2015 – Klabin, Brazil’s largest paper producer and exporter, was selected as a component of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the BM&FBovespa for the third year in a row. The progress made in the company’s performance was due to its reference efforts in climate change and its continuous improvement in social and environmental practices, as well as other criteria established by the stock index.
The objective of the ISE is to create an investment environment that is compatible with the demands of sustainable development and to encourage ethical responsibility through good business practices. “Seeing Klabin included in the ISE for yet another year brings a great sense of pride and validates our firm commitment to sustainable development. To Klabin, sustainability is incorporated throughout the entire value chain, from our forestry base to our relations with partners and the market,” said José Totti, Chief Forestry Officer at Klabin.
The index’s new portfolio is valid from Jan. 4, 2016 to Dec. 29, 2016. The selection of component stocks is based on criteria developed by the School of Economics and Business Administration (EAESP) at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). To be selected as a component, companies must excel in good practices in sustainability, divided into seven dimensions: General, Environmental, Climate Change, Social, Governance, Financial and Product Type. In addition to completing questionnaires for each dimension, the companies are subjected to an evaluation of documentary evidence to corroborate the quality of their management and controls in the selected topics.
